ABOUT ME
HUGO ARAÚJO
I’ve always been drawn to stories built around conflict, emotion, and morally complex characters. My journey into cinema started early, growing up in Portugal and experimenting with filmmaking through stop-motion Lego films, using whatever tools I had around me to explore framing, movement, and storytelling.
What started as simple curiosity gradually turned into more ambitious short films made alongside friends who shared the same passion, shaping the way I approach cinema today. Over time, I developed a strong interest in visually driven narratives and character-focused tension, trying to balance atmosphere, emotion, and realism in everything I create.
My directorial debut, Os Sinos Tocam à Meia Noite, which I wrote and directed, reflects many of those interests, morally charged choices, friendship, guilt, and the emotional consequences of violence. Through my work, I continue to see cinema as a way of exploring inner conflict and the complexities of human nature, while combining emotional depth with a strong visual identity.
